The investigations have gathered that, machinations by some leading members of New Patriotic Party (NPP) within and outside the Manhyia North constituency to see the seat in the news with bad reasons have still not stopped the party’s parliamentary primaries which suffered several postponement and legal suits.
With less than
three months to the general elections when every political party and their
Presidential as well elected Parliamentary candidates are seriously canvassing
votes, the Manhyia North NPP women’s organizer’s son Akwasi Konadu who was the second runner-up
in the primaries is alleged to have decided to contest the seat as independent
candidate.
The posters of
Kwasi Konadu which he has vehemently denied knowledge of, its are spread across
the length and breath of the constituency indicating his readiness for this
year’s elections slated for 7th December, 2016.
It would be
recalled that about a month ago, this paper published a story headlined
“MANHYIA NORTH NPP EXECUTIVES HUNTING FOR IND.CANDIDATE AHEAD OF 2016 POLLS”.
Meanwhile, a
source had it that, the leadership of the NPP has settled all internal wrangling
confronting their counterparts in the Manhyia north constituency. The Deputy
regional organizer, Daniel Agyenim Boateng, is said to have confirmed this
development to the media that, an out of court settlement has since been filed
and that plans are far advanced to resolve the matter amicably. This, he said
would allow the party to stay focused to wrestle power in this year's general
elections.
When contacted
for his comment on phone, Mr.Kwasi Konadu debunked the allegation that, he has
decided to contest the seat as independent candidate knowing the constitution
of the Party and rather put the blame on the sitting Member of Parliament (MP)
,hon.Collins Owusu Amankwah for being behind the posters pasted in the
constituency to create a bad name for him to tarnished his image.
“My brother if
the MP is not behind it when I spoke on it on air to deny knowledge of the
posters and went to lodge a complaint at the police station and ordered for the
removal of all the said independent candidate’s posters bearing my name, the MP
supporters resisted my supporters with cutlasses”.
He also admitted
being aware of the legal suit by some aggrieved polling station officers who
didn’t get the opportunity to cast their votes for the selection of the
Parliamentary candidate for the impending general elections. But was quick to disclose that, he was not party to
the suit.
Mr.Konadu
therefore asked the rank and file of the NPP especially his supporters and
sympathizers to treat the claim that he is going independent with the necessary
contempt it deserves.
Meanwhile, the
Manhyia North constituency Vice Chairman, Mr.Ernest Adjei Kwaku has also blamed
the MP for the current fracas and the allegation that Kwasi Konadu has decided
to contest the seat as independent candidate and has even gone ahead to erect
banners and posters.
According to
him, already the constituency executives are much focused and started their
house to house campaign without the MP to enable Nana Addo and the NPP win the
general elections and will not allow anything to frustrate that move.
Meanwhile, Hon. Collins Owusu Amankwah has also rubbished the claim by his
opponent since he has no time to waste on such bogus allegations.
