Meanwhile, September 21 has also been declared as a public holiday to mark founder’s day.
The founder's day, which was instituted by late president John Evans Atta Mills in 2010, is also marked to immortalise the country's first President, Dr Nkrumah, whose birthday falls on that day.

Dr Nkrumah was the motivating force behind the independence of Ghana from British rule in 1957 and became the first president of the country.

The government has declared September 12 and 21 2016 as public holidays.

In a statement signed by the Interior Minister Prosper Bani, it said “the general public is hereby informed that Monday 12th September 2016 which marks the celebration of Eidul-Adha, is a statutory public holiday and should be observed as such throughout the country.”
Eidul-Adha is the second of two Muslim holidays celebrated worldwide each year. It is celebrated to commemorate the willingness of Ibrahim (also known as Abraham) to follow Allah’s command to sacrifice his son, Ishmael.
