The Trust Newspaper has gathered that, due to a collapsed bridge at Bronkong Electoral area in the Afigya Kwabre District in the Ashanti region, several communities have been cut out from the District capital and major communities to sell their farm produce.
This paper has
learnt that, as a result of the collapsed bridge which is almost one year now,
many food stuffs have rotten and school
children are unable to cross to attend classes in the nearby communities.
The Assembly
Member of the area, Hon. Philip Sarkodie Addo who collaborated this paper’s
investigation has however, threatened to lead a massive demonstration as soon
as the Police grant them the permit to do so against the Central Government,
the Afigya Kwabre Assembly led by Hon. Oppong Kyekyeku, the District Chief
Executive (DCE) for the area as well as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of
Parliament (MP) for the area, Hon.Owuraku Aidoo for failing to come to their
aid upon several petitions to them.The Assembly member said his electoral area
shared border with Afrancho, the highest economical growing community in the Afigya
Kwabre district. “But right now we have been left in a state of discomfort,
since the only bridge linking the various communities has collapsed. The only
option for the residents is to walk far away to market and other places to buy
and sell, which has become a headache for us”, he lamented. Hon.Addo said most
traders, nurses, teachers, as well as other workers, refuses to go after their
jobs, due to the horrible nature of the collapsed bridge over river Nkadan.The
Assembly member disclosed that, they have submitted and appealed several times
to the Member of Parliament (MP) for the constituency, Hon.Owuraku Aidoo, but
he has turned death ears to their call, therefore, they have given the District
Chief Executive (DCE) and the MP two weeks ultimatum to effectively and
immediately construct the bridge ,otherwise, the entire community have planned
to demonstrate massively against them.
