
“Remember, it is the National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI) that has prepared you for the world of work in the form of wage or self-employment. You have not been trained to go and wait for employment; start your own businesses and you can. With a minimum support of GHc 500.00 you should be able to get a computer and a printer and you will be running a typesetting business”.
Mrs. Grace
Nsiah, the Manageress of NVTI/IBS Atonsu branch threw the challenge to the
graduates of NVTI IBS during the 11th graduation ceremony held at
the school premises, Chirapatre, shoe factory yard Atonsu-Agogo in Kumasi.
The graduation
ceremony which was highly attended by high profile dignitaries was under the
theme “TOWARDS EFFECTIVE CORPORATE GOVERNANCE: THE ROLE OF THE SECRETARY”.
Mrs.Grace Nsiah
said “today is one of the special moments in the lives of a cohort of our
trainees who have gone through the mill for over two years to acquire skills in
Secretaryship and information and Communications Technology (ICT).
According to
her, the Institute of Business Studies (IBS) was set up as a credible,
responsive and customer-oriented training institution, capable of actualizing
and realizing the NVTI's vision of providing “the best systems of employable
TVET skills’.
Adding that,
since 1970, IBS has been training professional Secretaries for various
institutions all over Ghana. Mrs.Nsiah said the credit goes to government, the
Board of the NVTI and Management led by the Executive Director, for upholding
the importance of Technical and Vocational Education.
Saying “ I am
glad to say that TVET is the tool for productivity enhancement, poverty
reduction and economic development in Ghana. China, she explained has embraced
TVET in its totality, and that is the reason for their emerging dominance in
the world economy today.
Stressing that,
convinced about the benefits of TVET skills, NVTI is delivering on its mandate
by training skilled manpower diligent and excellent in their chosen careers,
whether in self-employment or formal sector by on reduce unemployment and
promote economic growth and development in Ghana.”The NVTI provides
demand-driven employable skills training in all our institutions across the
country for all people no matter their educational background or age.
The Manageress
therefore urged the graduands to be good and worthy Ambassadors of the IBS and
NVTI by working hard to ensure that their livelihood and that of their
families.”Work as professional Secretaries observing the ethics of your
profession. Your superiors are your bosses, accord them the respect they
deserve, work with them and nothing more.
She therefore
appealed to the Parliamentary candidates of the various political parties in
the area that, when they get the nod,they should champion the course of
NVTI and IBS in particular, so that “we
will be able to develop our land at Asuoyeboah and relocate to expand our
programmes .
Mrs.Dorcas Dufie
Boadu, the Asokwa NDC parliamentary candidate and Madam Patricia Appiagyei, the
incumbent MP and 2016 NPP parliamentary candidate for the area both appealed to
the graduands to put to effective use what they have learned to help improve
their lives.
In all 85
graduands received certificates .The Board Chairman of Institute Management
Committee (IMC), Nana Asante Frimpong who doubles as the former Chairman of
Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) called for behavioural change of
Ghanaians, especially the youth who are the future leaders to respect time .
The ceremony was chaired by Mr.Akwanusah
Gyimah, a Board member of Kumasi High School and Bosomtwe Rural bank who is
also NPP first vice chairman for Asokwa constituency.
On his part, the
Chief Operations Manager of the Overmars Multi-Satellite Company Ltd, Mr.Hubert
Kyei-Mensah, promised to partner the NVTI/IBS authority to train the youth who
are interested in the digital satellite television among others. He disclosed
that, his outfit has so far trained thousands of youth and engaged a number of
them.
The award
winning Overmars Company Chief Operations Manager disclosed that, he started
his business with just Four Hundred Ghana cedis (GHC 400.00) and encouraged the
graduates in the country, especially the NVTI/IBS to start their own
businesses.
