With just 17 days to this year’s general elections slated for 7th December,2016, the Electoral Commission (EC) officials have been warned to stay away from any attempt to rig the elections, especially in the Manhyia North constituency else they would have themselves to blame.
“I am sending a
strong warning to the Electoral Commission officials to stay away or refrain
from any attempt to manipulate the results in favour of any candidate come 1st
December,2016 which has been fixed for the ‘special voting’ as well as the
general elections slated for 7th December,2016.I my-self am going to be the polling station agent and
after the polls I will put the NPP seal and use my phone to take a picture of
the seal number to avoid any rigging machination”.

Owusu Amankwah, the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for Manhyia North
constituency within the Kumasi Metropolis, who is also the 2016 NPP
Parliamentary candidate for the area, gave the caution during the
constituency’s campaign launch held at Buokrom School Park.
The MP who
doubles as the President of Commonwealth young Parliamentarians forum however,
the rank and file of the NPP to be extra
vigilant before, during and after the polls.
He warned that,
any polling agent of the party who wants to take money during the polls to give
way for the ruling party to rig the elections should let the NPP know now to
settle him or her since no excuses would be allowed or entertained for any
malpractice.
He said the
forthcoming general elections is the destiny of Ghanaians ,especially the youth
who are the future leaders of the country and called on all the rank and file
of NPP to redouble their efforts to ensure that, Nana Addo and NPP win the
December polls one-touch.
Hon.Collins
Owusu Amankwah who took the hundreds of Party Supporters who thronged to the
launching as well as those who were listening live via Ashh 101.1 fm in Kumasi
as well as Oman fm in Accra respectively, challenged the NPP supporters to help
educate voters to reduce the spoiled votes.
He said all
efforts should be channeled to help reduce the over 200,000 spoil and rejected
votes in 2008 and the numerous spoiled votes in 2012 general elections this
time round.
He used the
opportunity to thank the Chiefs, clergy/Imams in the area as well as the
leading members of the party from polling station through to the national level
for their support and gracing of the launching.
Other speakers
including the Minority Leader, Hon.Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu who is also the MP
for Suame constituency, Madam Patricia Appiagyei, MP for Asokwa constituency,
Mr.Bernard Antwi Boasiako aka Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti regional Chairman,
Lawyer Adomako Baafi, Samuel Pyne,the regional Secretary of the party among
other leading members of the party, stressed the need for all supporters and
sympathizers of NPP to be extra vigilant especially the polling agents to
ensure the party’s resounding victory.
Both speakers cautioned the youth not to make
any mistake to renew the mandate of President Mahama led administration else
they would regret their mistake.
