Information reaching the Trust Newspaper indicates that, one of the failed New Parliamentary Candidates for Manhyia North constituency in the Kumasi Metropolis, is lacing his boot with the backing of some leading members of the Party to contest as independent candidate against the party’s 2016 Parliamentary candidate, Hon.Collins Owusu Amankwah who is also the sitting Member of Parliament(MP).
This paper
investigation had it that, after several attempts to unseat the incumbent MP
who is also the President of the World Young Parliamentarian forum, some
leading members including the constituency through the National level are
putting pressure on one of the failed Parliamentary candidates for the area to
put himself up as independent candidate .
Rumours are also
going rounds that, one of the failed candidates was given a huge amount from
anti-Collins Owusu Amankwah ‘gang’ in the NPP to enable him influence the
delegates to vote against the sitting MP but, the said candidate allegedly
pocketed the money hence lost in the primaries and pressure is now on him to
contest as independent candidate with 3 months to the general elections to
enable him gain some sympathy among the party leadership as preparation for the
next party’s primaries for 2020 elections.
Meanwhile, the
Manhyia North constituency Vice Chairman, Mr.Ernest Adjei Kwaku has confirmed
that, he has also heard of the rumours that, of the failed parliamentary
candidates went to contest the seat in 2016 as independent candidate.
According to
him, should the rumours be confirmed it
would be a big blow to the party with few months to the general elections. “As
constituency executives we are seriously hunting for that person because we
have heard of the similar names but we want to get firm hold of the actual
person so that we can talk to him to rescind his decision for the sake of the
party’s unity. If he should agree, fair enough but we can’t force the person
should it be confirmed that, some body wants to go independent”, he explained.
