John Kudalor said “it depends. It is only a fool that doesn’t change his mind. I want to go there and assess it. If they say something that we feel is commendable… why not? We may give them conditions and deadlines but we will see how it goes.”
The police administration on Friday, August 19, 2016, pulled out officers in the troubled town in the Eastern Region after irate residents set the police station there on fire in protest over some police officers who fled after being allegedly involved a bullion van attack which led to the death of the driver.
Even though some security experts have condemned it, the IGP insisted the decision to withdraw from the area following the unrest was the best.
He said that “this is not the first time a police station has been closed down. As I said, this one was closed down because it was vandalised so people get the kind of policing that they want. If they want to cooperate with the policing, it is a shared responsibility.”
The Inspector General Police (IGP), John Kudalor, says the police administration will reconsider its decision to withdraw personnel from Donkorkrom and other surrounding areas after they assess the security happenings in the community.
The IGP was speaking to Accra-based Citi FM when he together with a team of officers went to assess the situation on the ground at Donkorkrom and its environs in the Afram plains in the Eastern Region.
The IGP said he has received some petitions pleading for a review of the decision but he said he reiterated that he can only grant their plea after his assessment of the area.
