Ace investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas was on Saturday adjudged the overall best journalist of the year 2015 at the 21st Ghana Journalist Awards (GJA).

The award was because of his recent expose on judicial corruption in the country. The expose captured 34 judges on video who allegedly took bribes and were compromised in their ruling.

Out of the 34 judges indicted, 26 of them have so far been sacked after they were found guilty of the charges levelled against them.

Anas  took home a brand new Hyundai SUV as his prize.

The theme for the awards ceremony was “Media for Undisputed and Peaceful 2016 Election: The Support of Civil Society.” Over 20 awards were given to journalists in various categories.

The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Charlotte Osei, who was the guest speaker at the ceremony called on journalists to be cautious in their reportage in this election year. She admonished journalists to check their facts before publishing them. “Do not base your reportage on mere speculations,” she added. Charlotte Osei also called for a collaborative effort from stakeholders, civil society and the media for a peaceful election. She further assured the general public that the EC will organise a successful election on December 7, 2016.
