The Head Pastor
of the Bethel Assemblies of God at
Ayigya, a suburb of Kumasi, Rev.John Nkrumah has stated that violence
that have characterized Ghana’s elections is not a means to solve the problems
confronting the country.
According to
him, it rather diverts attention of leaders from their intended plans for the
country and urged all Ghanaians to shun violence before, during and after
Wednesday 7th December, polls.
Rev.Nkrumah who
made the observation in an interview with the New Trust Newspaper with few days
to the general elections, said political party leaders, especially NDC and NPP
should send clear warning to their supporters to desist from acts that are
likely to mar the beauty of the election.
He said though,
this year’s election campaigning has been quite peaceful in the sense that,
there are few areas like Asunafo south in the Brong Ahafo region and
Odododiodio constituency in the Greater Accra which have witnessed some
violence.
Rev.John Nkrumah
said “political campaigning is all about what you can do and if electorates
take it, they will vote for you but not the pulling of cutlasses and guns to
cause mayhem.
The Head Pastor
of Bethel Assemblies of God also urged the Electoral Commission (EC) to be
neutral in their activities devoid of any favoritism of any political party or
candidate since that could spark confusion.
He entreated
government to focus on job creation in order to absorb more youth. According to
him, lack of jobs has compelled many youth to involve in social vices like
armed robbery among others.
The Man of God appeals
to the youth not allow themselves to be use by any politician to create
confusion in the Wednesday polls.”If she or she asks you to take money and go
and cause confusion or trouble, ask him or her to engage his or her children or
relatives”, he urged.
He entreated all
eligible voters to go out and vote peacefully in order to help sustain the
peace of the country.
