SAVANNAH WELFARE SOCIETY CELEBRATES 2ND ANNIVERSARY.

A group known as “SAVANNAH WELFARE SOCIETY” comprising the three Northern regions indigenes resident in the Asunafo South district of the Brong Ahafo region has celebrated its 2nd anniversary with fanfare at Sankore.
Speaking under the theme, “the role of Northerners in the 2016 election", the leader and spokesperson for the group, Alhassan Zibrim, a.k.a "Allah", explained how people in the district including the Kusasis, Wangaras, Grunshies, Dagombas among others have realized the need to come under one umbrella to forge ahead in reaching their welfare.
Highlighting the mission of the association, Mr. Zibrim pointed out that it was high time the northerners invested in their children by raising the standard of their education. Others included discouraging child labour and trafficking, in calculating financial discipline among themselves as it has been realized that some of them were leading extravagant lifestyle and lastly, to promote the spirit of communication.
Giving details on the forthcoming election, the group leader said the 2016 election is of paramount importance to them particularly, those in the Akan-speaking areas and called on his people to come out in their numbers to cast their votes.
"It is our civic rights to exercise our franchise because we are also Ghanaians even though we are outside our regions”, he stated.
On the political crisis at Sankore ,Mr.Zibrim expressed regret over the callous behaviour of politicians in the area who are the Northerners, particularly the youth, as tools of violence to the extend of shedding blood.
He further blamed the two parliamentary candidates, Hon Eric Opoku, the Regional Minister and Hon George Yaw Boakye (National Democratic Congress (NDC ) and New Patriotic Party (NPP) respectively) for the escalating violence in the Asunafo South district.
According to him, in order to reduce the rising tension, they decided to celebrate the anniversary at Sankore instead of Kwapong which was initially slated for, after consultation with Kwapong Zongo Chief and opinion leaders.
"What even encouraged us to come to Sankore is that interestingly, the two aspirants hail from the town" he told the gathering.

Mr. Zibrim disclosed that Northerners abound in their numbers in the district constituting Kukuom and Sankore Traditional councils but Sankore accommodates greater number of them and it was therefore, proper to hold the occasion in the town in order to deliver message of peace to all and sundry and the district at large.
