The second stakeholder meeting of the Civil Society Network on Public Financial Management (PFM-Network) has ended at Forest hotel, Dodowa in the Eastern region
.
The PFM is a
group of civil society Organizations in public financial management and social
accountability activities within the public in Ghana, formed in 2015.
The Network
Convenors’: African Development Programme(ADP),Peoples’ Dialogue,Bera Social
Foundation, EduMedia Ghana,Younet,4H,Progressive Youth Excellence Organization
(PEYORG),Abak Foundation, Mission of Hope Society (MIHOSO). Others are Northern
Development Society (NORDESO), Action for Sustainable Development (ASUDEV),
Development Research and Advocacy Centre (DRAC) respectively.
Mr.Charles
Othniel Abbey and Mr.Kojo Anane, Co-convenors said the second meeting which was
highly attended by stakeholders from the various sectors including the Ten (10)
Presidents of the Media Network on Social Accountability, Mrs.Fati Soale, the
Head of Social Accountability Unit (SAU) and her able team was supported by the
Social Accountability Unit (SUA) of the Ministry of Local Government and Rural
Development (MLRD).
The meeting
discussed emerging issues in National public financial management (PFM)
legislation, processes and opportunities to promote greater accountability in
government. The meeting was also aimed to consolidate gains towards developing
a strong platform that serves as a strong voice and partner in deepening fiscal
decentralization and PFM in Ghana. The meeting also afforded members
opportunity to discuss and fine-tune the Network’s plans for the next Two (2)
years.
The national
stakeholder meeting was under the theme “PROMOTING CITIZENS KNOWLEDGE IN PUBLIC
FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT AND ACCOUNTABILITY THROUGH EFFECTIVE CIVIL SOCIETY AND
PUBLIC INSTITUTIONS PARTNERSHIPS”. The speakers included Dr.Eric Oduro
Osae,Head of Department, Institute of Local Government Institute (LGS),Mr.Farouk Braimah,the
Chairman of Ghana PFM-Network, Rev.Emmanuel Tetteh, the overall facilitator
among others.
