The Supreme Court has dismissed a suit by the member of parliament for New Juabeng South Dr Mark Assibey Yeboah challenging the legality of the Karpower agreement between Ghana and Turkey.

Dr Mark Assibey Yeboah filed the suit against the Attorney-General, Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and Ecobank at the Supreme Court for going ahead with the Karpower agreement without recourse to parliament.

Assibey-Yeboah challenged the agreement on the basis that it does not have parliamentary approval.pp

In dismissing the suit, the five-member panel, presided over Justice Jones Dotse, indicated that they will give their reason for the dismal in the full judgment which will be filed at the court's registry.

The suit sought constitutionality of the Karpower agreement which in total will cost the taxpayer a whopping $100 million to enable the government 'import' 450 megawatts of power from Turkey to offset the current energy supply deficit.
