The investigation carried out by your authoritative the Trust newspaper has established that, worse things are likely to happen to the residents of Kumasi especially those who have build in water prone areas.
Just last week
when the rains bounced back after few weeks of no proper rain more than 50
houses in the Ahinsan East within the Asokwa constituency in the Kumasi
Metropolis Assembly KMA) were submerged rendering the affected persons
homeless.
The Assembly
member for the are,Nana Yaw Wiredu who doubles as a Chief of Nyamekrom in the
Eastern region with the stool name Nana Kwame Nnuro Agyapong ll who
collaborated this paper’s investigation said many people including children and
adults have been rendered homeless and there is no help for them.
Asked if the
National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) had gone to the aid of the
victims of the torrential rain, the Assembly member said nothing and he
personally has been struggling to find the victims a temporary place of abode.
Nana Yaw Wiredu
is therefore appealing to philanthropists, Churches, individuals and
organizations to come to the aid if the victims especially the children among
them.
Apart from that,
parts of Atonsu Agogo and other parts of the Kumasi Metropolis was hit with the
flood rendering many people homeless whiles many traders also lost their wears.
Meanwhile, this
paper has gathered that unless the City authorities especially the waste
management wake up from their slumber and the residents change their attitude
towards indiscriminate dumping of refuses in the gutters among other water ways
something unpredictable can happen to the residents in the city should the
rains continue for some couple of weeks as it has started. There is a saying that
prevention is better than cure!
